Grand Theft Arguement

July 1st, 2008

Here is an interesting article detailing the discussion between the authors of Grand Theft Childhood (Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl Olson) and a University of Michigan professor Brad Bushman. You see, Prof. Bushman posted a rebuttal to the book that essentially disputes the claims of the author. The original claims of the authors? That video game violence doesn’t hurt a child as much as we like to think. The Prof alleges that this is untrue and that video game violence does, in fact, hurt children.

The authors do a good job at replying to the professor, not sliding in to fanboyism that we so often see on the internet. I believe a person should have facts to back up an argument, even if the other person disputes those facts.

I haven’t bought Grand Theft Childhood yet, but I think I shall purchase it now.
