My Life As A King (Wii - Download)
May 27th, 2008Since my 360 tanked (see previous post) and it was a 3 day weekend, I needed something to play…enter My Life As A King by Square-Enix. A Final Fantasy Sim sounded like exactly what I needed. It is a virtual title that you buy and download on your Nintendo Wii. My Life is a game I have been curious about for sometime now and hoped it would prove to be a nice distraction from the 360 issues I’m dealing with. I was right.
It started out as a innocent game with soothing music, colorful cartoonish graphics and a fairly easy to learn SIM system. It turned into a sinister monster that once it got it’s hooks into me, it conjured up every ounce of obsessive, compulsive behavior that had ever resided in my soul. My Life As A King is a highly addictive game that will have you saying, “one more level” or in this case “one more day” until you can’t keep your eyes open. I “one more day” until the “Wii” hours of the morning and sleep deprivation was the only way I could put it down.
My Life As King puts you as the King (duh) over a Final Fantasy (Crystal Chronicles era to be specific) inspired land and it’s up to you to grow it into a functioning kingdom. You build houses, taverns, guild halls, and much much more. You will train and guide adventures to go fight and explore on your behalf (no you can’t go but you will have your hands full). Square really eases you in and provides a safe, slow start but it doesn’t take long to figure out that there are subtleties to playing and managing your kingdom, especially when it comes to equipping, class training, and judging the aspects needed to ensuring the success of adventures undertaken by your adventurers at your personal request. Just having a high level adventurer doesn’t guarantee a quick and speedy victory. You have to pay attention to the details and think things through. You’ll learn that after a victory you knew was in the bag turns sour that rushing through things doesn’t always work.
Don’t let the early days of this game fool you. The deeper you go, the more involved you will be and the more addictive it becomes. It is a very fun, relaxing and casual game and best of all…hard to put down. I also recommend just buying all the extras (most of which are cheap) because you will be picking them up shortly after playing….just trying to save you the hassle of doing it after. You will want to change into the Dark King uniform ASAP. If a casual, Final Fantasy Sim sounds like a nice way to pass some time then My Life As A King will not disappoint.
