360 Heaven

May 23rd, 2008

Picked up this 360 system from geeks.com and am in 360 heaven.  I bought Naruto: Rise of Ninja (great game for fans…best of the franchise), Mass Effect (sci-fi roleplaying paradise) and Crackdown (super human cop GTA like game).  A friend of mine (shouts out to Matt) let me borrow Assassin’s Creed and BioShock.  I’m pretty much set.  Lots of great games coming out for the 360 and looks to be the next PS2 (huge library and budget games).  So far I’ve been impressed by the system and I am very happy with it.

I just picked up the vga adpater from Best Buy and have it on my vga feed to my Dell 21″ widescreen lcd.  The audio is ported into my line in (usually blue jack) of my sound card.  So I can switch between 360 (vga), PC (DVI) and PS2 (RCA) at the touch of a button or go picture in picture.   Running it on a monitor looks great if you were wondering….you can get some insane resolutions.

I started out playing Naruto and was really bowled over by the fact that Ubisoft built the entire city of Kohona as seen in the anime.  The game is a mix of fighting, racing (running) and exploration.  Up till now I had placed Uzumaki Chronicles at the top of the list of Naruto games but Rise of Ninja is pretty impressive.  Beautiful game.

As of right now Mass Effect has been dominating my off hour gaming.  I got hooked on it straight out of the gate.  Imho it looks better with film grain and motion blur turned off.  It’s definitely filling the space left by Oblivion on the rpg front and it’s not a half bad shooter to boot.  Big fan of Bioware…KOTOR was good stuff.

Haven’t tried Crackdown but the premise of the game intrigues me.  You can find it for $20 or less at your local Gamestop/EBgames.  My local EB rep said they have tons of them because most folks bought it for the Halo demo that came with it but very few actually played the game.  The store crew gave it high praise as a fun game.  It’s a sandbox game so you roam the city putting the beat down on the bad guys, get into high speed chases and use your genetically enhanced abilities to super jump and super hero like stunts.  The store agrees that it is an overlooked game.  I will let you know if it is.

I’ve already played BioShock on the pc some and look forward to comparing the experience verses the 360.  I also look farward to seeing if Assassin’s Creed really lives up to the hype or not.  I like Ubisoft…I pray they don’t let me down.

Hope I can peel myself away long enough to go see Indiana Jones.  Though I’m not holding out huge hopes from the reviews I’ve read, I’m wishing that it at least entertains me.  Lucas should leave the writing to others….that’s all I got to say about that.

Happy Memorial Day!!! Hope everyone has a fun filled weekend.
