The rumors of the NonWOW MMO death have been greatly exaggerated
May 14th, 2008According to gameindustry.biz via an Interview with EA Mythic (you know the guys behind a certain Warhammer game..) they say that the MMO market is much easier post WOW then pre WOW.
That is good to hear, I think. It means that creating an MMO, although it is a money sink and a lengthy process, doesn’t necessarily have to be something that immediately fails. I noticed many MMO’s are niche titles (if you can call something that attracts 500,000 to 1,000,000 people ‘niche.’)
I really dig online multi player games of the Massive kind. I just hope some of the tried and true conventions start to get ditched for some other convention that will get tried and true in 10 years time…
Like the whole “Kill 500 womprats and bring me 600 of their innards and I will give you this rusty blade!”
Or at least give us the option to kill the quest giver…
