Information on the ASUS PC EEE 900 (Technology)

March 12th, 2008

As some of you might know, the ASUS EEE Is a small, ultra portable PC that I plan on buying.  It is a sub 500 dollar notebook that is light (Under 2 pounds) and can be used for writing, emailing, music, and videos.

I’ve been waiting until they release info on the new models of the EEE PC.  I almost bought the original, but the small screen size (7 inches) and the low memory (2 to 8 gigs) kept me back. I want at least 8 gigs of Solid state memory.

Well the new model, the Asus EEE 900, will start appearing in April.  It will have an 8.9 inch screen, with a 1024 by 600 pixel resolution.  The base model will be preinstalled with a version of Windows XP, have 8 gigs of solid state (IE: Flash) memory and have 1 gig of Ram.  There will also be a version with more solid state memory, 12 or 20 gigs, that will come with a version of Linux installed.  They will be sold for about $499 dollars.

Since I can use this to work with, as well as play with, I think I’ll be putting off my PS3 purchase for awhile and get one of these babies.   Heck, I told my friend about this and we’ve already compiled a list of older games and emulators that should work on this PC.  Cool, eh?

If you want to read the interview, just click on this link.  It is fairly informative, if you have any interest in the ASUS EEE at all.

Think of the EEE as a low cost ultraportable PC solution and instead of going on and on about why I want one, let me show you a couple of videos.

First off, I came across this PC because I was looking for an alternative to the Mac Air. I *love* the idea of the Mac Air, but it is way to expensive.  Current versions of the EEE run from $299 to $399 and will probably go down once the new models hit.

Okay, on to the videos:

Size Comparison of the older model

Pretty cool eh? I love the size.  Plus it can fit in a manilla envelope..take that Mac Air!

And now here is a comparison between the older EEE PC model and the new one that will be released in May. ( I *love* the bigger screen, by the way.)

That is a small tour of the Asus EEE PC.  It is an awesome portable solution for those that need to computer on the go.  I’ll be getting one soon, God willing :D
