Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony (PSP)
November 26th, 2007I have had the fortune of playing this game on both the old PSP and the new slim PSP which makes a huge difference in gameplay. Dungeon Siege is a great hack’n slash on the new PSP but unplayable on the older system. The new slim PSP has more ram and UMD caching and that extra hardware is the only one I can recommend playing Dungeon Siege on which makes we wonder if the game was developed specifically for it. If you try to play this game on the old PSP you are in for a world of hurt including uber long load times (we’re talking go get lunch and come back) and lag. The load times on the original PSP are literally on everything you do and it makes you not even want to go to your items menu for fear of yet another long load wait. There were times while playing on the original that I thought the system had crashed, only to find out it was just still loading. Even in game play I experienced lag, slowdown and small freezing on the old systems. Now on the new slim PSP it plays fine. The load times are bearable and I’ve had a touch of lag in places but not enough to warrant throwing it out a window like trying to play it on the original system.
The game itself is a one of the better hack’n slash games I’ve played on a handheld. The graphics are beautiful and it’s nice to see touches in the background like leaves falling and the ocean washing up on the beach. The game has a huge number of weapons, armor and items to collect, enough to satisfy the hardcore Diablo fan. You have 3 classes to choose from Mage, Warrior and Assassin and a number of ways to configure them as you level to tweak them to whatever style of game play you like. Also having a party member with the ability to unlock others and customize their abilities makes this a fun ride.
If you have a new slim PSP and are a hack’n slash fan then I recommend getting this game but if you have an original PSP then I beg you not to torture yourself and risk throwing your PSP against a brick wall. On the new PSP it is Dungeon Siege but on the older systems it’s the Throne of Agony. It makes that big of a difference in game play.
