Orcs & Elves (DS)
November 19th, 2007Before I played this game my thoughts were that it’s just a game made for mobile phones but I wanted to give it a try since it was a John Carmack (creator of DOOM) and Id product. Well the game is beautifully simplistic. Once again John shows us why he’s a legend in the gaming world. It’s some serious old school RPG fun. It definitely takes you back to earlier days of role-playing adventure games but is polished enough to not tarnish your memories of it.
The graphics aren’t anything to write home about but the simplistic design and addictive gameplay are worth picking this game up for a while. It is a creative game that you can tell through playing was a labor of love for John. Luckily for us John liked the experience so much that Id has a whole new division working on nothing but mobile games.

I’d have to agree with this; This game totally takes me back to hack and slash games of the early 90s…but not in a bad way. It is ag ame, like Eterian Odyssey, that seems more like an evolution of a concept that has gone out of style then just emulating the classic style of yester-year. I think that the creators are true fans. They like this type of game and it shows in spades.
